A partnership between a sustainable food provider, Wild Hare, and app-based grocery delivery service, Weezy, means high quality ready meals are now available to order across London, Manchester, Bristol and Brighton.
Following a trial partnership that started in May across a couple of locations, keen interest from consumers saw more than 120 units a week being ordered through the Weezy app. Following the success of the trial, Weezy will now offer the meals across all four cities - London, Manchester, Bristol and Brighton.
Produced by the Wild Hare Group, the ready meal range uses high-quality, fresh, nutritious British grown ingredients, which are all of a sustainable origin – with practically all of the ingredients traceable and transparent, with provenance at the heart of the supply chain.
Consisting of a range of options to suit multiple tastes, the Wild Hare Group’s initial offering – which has been created by Michelin pedigree chef, Anthony Robinson – includes Chicken Thighs, Chicken Dhal, Cauliflower & Chickpea Dhal, and British Red Wine Braised Chuck Steak. With all options produced using sustainable processes, any carbon use is then offset to minimise the environmental impact.
The Weezy partnership is the next phase in the development of the brand and is something that will serve to increase its access to the consumer market. Currently, it’s stocked by brands such as Whole Foods, Selfridges London, Tebay Services, Burford Garden Centre and more – but Weezy’s delivery service will enhance consumer accessibility to the range.
Dominie Fearn, who has a 20-year career in sustainability and is the founder of the Wild Hare Group, said: “Our partnership with Weezy is an exciting one and we’re delighted following the success of the trial. Wild Hare is all about sustainable convenience and Weezy very much fits within that mould – offering easy access to quality ingredients using sustainable means. By making our meals available on Weezy, we’ll be putting ourselves in front of an ever-growing audience, and it’s something that marks the next step in our ongoing expansion plans.”
Working closely with its farmers, The Wild Hare Group champions UK-based regenerative agriculture, which sees it incorporate ingredients designed to minimise carbon output. For example, Wild Hare’s range uses traditional UK grains, which require 50% less water than commercial wheat, supplemented by soil audits to ensure ongoing fertility while monitoring nutrients. Other sustainable approaches along the chain of production includes using alternatives to plastic packaging to help enhance the environmental positives.
Commenting about the partnership, Emily Lauterpacht, Commercial Associate at Weezy, said: “We’re excited to be working with a sustainable focused brand like Wild Hare whose ethos and values mirror ours. They joined us in May, and their meals have been flying out the door. During our trials, we saw how much our customers loved the meals and so it’s great to be able to offer them across all 4 cities. This is what we’re about, connecting consumers with high quality, sustainable produce and convenience products.”
At present, the Wild Hare Group is working towards producing the UK’s first net zero carbon ready meal, helped by a new partnership with a specialist carbon-tracking start-up called Reewild. Reewild enables detailed analysis of the carbon consumption in the supply chain, while allowing for any carbon footprint to be offset through a variety of sustainability projects.
