Colleagues at UK independent parcel carrier Yodel’s Mitcham depot have supported local households by donating a generous amount of food and household products to the Purley food hub.

The food hub, set up by the local churches in January 2013, helps local people in crisis providing them with basic items such as food and household items. It has 150 volunteers from the churches and local community. To date the food hub has been able to provide food for 250,000 meals to hard-pressed people and their families.

Yodel began arranging collections at its Mitcham site in June 2020 and has so far donated over 60 boxes of dried, tinned, long life food items and also raised £450 at the beginning of the pandemic as the charity saw an increase of families in need of basic items.

Declan Connolly, Mitcham Lead Team manager, said: “We have been so delighted to have a team who have got on board with the donations we make to Purley Food Hub. Their volunteers work so hard in distributing all of the donated items to those who are most vulnerable or in need and we are humbled to be able to support the Purley Food Hub and the fantastic work the organization does within our local community and will continue to do so”

Trevor Jones, Chair of the Food Hub's Trustees, said: "We are very grateful indeed to Declan and his colleagues at Yodel's Mitcham depot for their terrific support. It is directly through the wonderful support we receive from organisations and businesses like Yodel and so many individuals, families and others in the local community, that together, we can make a real difference to local people in crisis at this time."
