AHDB virtual event to target key overseas markets

A virtual showcase of UK red meat is being held next week targeting three key export markets – including Mexico which has opened its doors to British pork for the first time.

Following an announcement earlier this month that pork from the UK will be heading to Mexico, worth an estimated £50 million to industry over the first five years of trade, AHDB has organised an online event targeting potential importers.

The event, which takes place on 22 September, will focus on Mexico, Texas, Florida and the Caribbean – targeting retailers, importers, local authorities and the media.

In this, the latest in a series of virtual events targeting the foodservice sector in key export markets, the theme will be ‘Sustainability and Innovation’ – highlighting the great strides UK agriculture is making to become net zero by 2040.

Hosted by AHDB’s Lisa Bray, it will feature AHDB Knowledge Exchange Manager for beef and lamb Sarah Pick and Patrick Loten, AHDB Knowledge Exchange Manager for pork.

High quality pork and beef will be showcased, with butchery demonstrations from AHDB’s Martin Eccles and cooking displays to champion the textures and flavours of UK red meat.

AHDB Senior Export Manager for the Americas Susana Morris, organiser of the virtual events, said: “Following on from this month’s exciting announcement that pork from the UK can be exported to Mexico for the first time, we are delighted to be hosting this event – with the aim of helping boost shipments to this important new market.

“We are also looking forward to connecting with key influencers in Florida, where we have recently secured access for UK beef and are continuing to build on impressive shipments of pork exports. And with Covid issues and ASF in parts of the Caribbean, this presents another opportunity to highlight the quality and taste of UK red meat.”
