Eden’s Fruit Logistica fitness challenge raises £1.4k+ for FareShare

5 February, 21

The team at Eden Search & Select has been taking part in a fun, Fruit Logistica-focused, fitness challenge, which has so far raised more than £1.4k for FareShare – the UK charity working with the food industry to fight hunger and food waste. Normally in January, the Eden team is busy planning its annual visit to Fruit Logistica in Berlin. With the 2021 event postponed due to COVID, Eden’s executive search experts decided to channel their energy into exercising the 1600 miles from their office in Wetherby to the German capital and back!

Eden Search & Select is the only specialist executive search consultancy in the UK focused solely across the global food and drink supply chain. The team works with some of the biggest names in agribusiness, animal health, food and drink, fresh produce and renewable energy.

Starting their fitness challenge on 9th January, the Eden team logged their collective progress and, as they clocked up the miles – walking, cycling and running – promoted their efforts via the consultancy’s Twitter and LinkedIn pages. Posting pictures of themselves, out and about in all kinds of weather, they drummed up fundraising support from Eden clients and industry contacts, plus friends and family. On 1st February the team smashed their 1600-mile target, six days ahead of the planned start date of Fruit Logistica 2021.

Darren Houghton, Director & Head of Research at Eden Search & Select, said: “It was apparent at the end of 2020, that the New Year was going to be tough. To lift our spirits throughout January, we decided to embark on a challenge that would bring us together as a team, support our mental health, and help an organisation doing really great things in an industry we love. To replace the buzz the team usually gets from planning our annual Fruit Logistica trip, it seemed obvious that we should exercise together – working towards a common goal. As a business, we all agreed FareShare was the cause to champion. Now, more than ever, its’ work is proving invaluable – helping people who are struggling during the pandemic.”

David Macaulay, Founder and Managing Director of Eden said: “2021 marks a decade in business for Eden and this was a fantastic way to kick start our anniversary year. I’m so proud of the team’s efforts in bringing this idea to life. As always, they demonstrated real passion and commitment – throwing everything at the challenge to hit our target and raise more money than we expected. Thank you to everyone that sponsored us. Hopefully we’ll get to the real Fruit Logistica in 2022. Until then, it looks like it’s going to be another year of doing things differently; something we are well known for at Eden. Over the last ten years we’ve built a reputation for thinking outside of the box to meet the executive search needs of some of the biggest names in the agribusiness, food and drink sector. We look forward to doing more of the same to support the industry through this unprecedented time and beyond.”

FareShare takes good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and redistributes it to frontline charities and community groups – helping to feed more than a million vulnerable people every week via school breakfast clubs, meals on wheels services and homeless shelters.
