Pig meat to take centre stage in Mexico

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) will next week aim to help UK pig meat exporters capitalise on opportunities in one of its newest markets.

AHDB’s export team will be attending the ANTAD & Alimentaria event in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 17 to 19 May, for the first time since access to the Mexican market for British pork was secured in September 2021.

The event – for the retail, hotel and restaurant sector in the food industry suply chain – presents AHDB with the opportunity to highlight our quality production and animal welfare standards, as well as nutrition and traceability of home-produced pig meat

Access to the Mexican market is estimated to be worth £50 million to UK pork producers over the first five years of trade.

AHDB Senior Exports Manager (Americas) Susana Morris said: “Gaining access to the Mexican market for high-quality and high-welfare produce in September was another significant milestone for the UK’s agri-food export ambitions.

“ANTAD & Alimentaria provides the perfect platform for us to ensure our domestically-produced pig meat is front and centre in this important market and for our levy payers to capitalise on the opportunities it presents.”
