Delivered during April 2019, the UK’s first Euro 6, Step D powered Volvo FH tractor unit is providing reliable performance and good fuel economy levels at Tyrrells Court Ltd.

The independent Leominster-based company, supplies snack producers, Tyrrells Food Group, with bulk loads of potatoes and takes palletised loads of finished products from the company’s Herefordshire plant.

Supplied by Adam Barnard, Transport Solutions Executive at Truck and Bus Wales and West Ltd, the new FH is powered by Volvo’s D13K engine rated at 500hp. The 3.9m wheelbase, 6×2 pusher axle tractor comes with an I-Shift gearbox and a single reduction drive axle with a ratio of 2.64:1.

The Globetrotter Cab truck also has a factory-applied green chassis paint.

“SB Components supplied the hydraulic kit to Truck and Bus Wales and West, whilst BP Rolls in Newport painted the additional green colour onto the cab. The Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels provide a smart finishing touch,” notes Andrew Jones, Director at Tyrrells Court Ltd.

This landmark Volvo FH joins a fleet of 13 vehicles at Tyrrells Court, all of which work exclusively for Tyrrells Food Group. “The FH is our third Volvo tractor unit and we’ve previously bought two used FHs from Volvo dealerpoints. We prefer to stick to the 500hp power output with new truck purchases and our intention is to retain the FH for between five and seven years. The driver of the FH is delighted with the truck; he’s a big Volvo fan and has improved his fuel consumption figures after a day’s familiarisation training,”

Andrew adds.

To guarantee 100 per cent uptime, Tyrrells Court Ltd opted for a five-year Volvo Gold Service contract. Andrew Jones and his drivers have all downloaded Volvo’s Dynafleet app to receive real-time vehicle and driver performance data straight to their mobile phones. “We do a lot of running on rural A roads, as we’re located about an hour’s drive from the nearest motorway. However the new Volvo is returning between 8 and 9mpg and I’m happy with those figures. The drivers are competitive and take pride in achieving good results. That can only be good for our business,” Andrew concludes.
