Waitrose & Partners Launches Edible Christmas Coal.

Waitrose & Partners has launched edible Christmas Coal, a delicious and unique festive confection – and the only type of coal you will want to find in your stocking this Christmas!

Where once the thought of waking up on Christmas morning to find a lump of coal in your stocking would have struck festive fear, these chunky shards of blackened liquorice honeycomb are set to bring Christmas cheer this year. Whisked by hand to incorporate as many air bubbles as possible, this traditional honeycomb recipe is infused with rich liquorice flavours before being dipped by hand into silky, smooth Belgian dark chocolate and decorated with black sparkly sugar for a festive feel.

Kate Kind, Confectionery Product Developer at Waitrose & Partners says,

“We’ve seen a real trend for grown up confectionery this festive season, as shoppers look for fun and thoughtful gifts for their loved ones. Our customers love to experiment with new trends and flavours and our shards of black honeycomb bring together a fun and playful idea with luxurious and traditional flavours to create chunks of ‘coal’ that I’m sure anyone would love to find in their Christmas stocking!”

The Christmas coals are made by a small company, Serious Sweets, in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, who use traditional copper pans and methods to create their rich honeycomb.

Other sweet treats available for grown-ups from Waitrose & Partners this year include chocolate lollies – dark chocolate with orange & pistachio sprinkles or milk chocolate with tangy strawberry & biscuit crumbs – as well as Rhubarb Gin Mallows £3, Peanut Brittle £3, Marmalade & Whisky Fudge £3, Salted Caramel Fudge Slab £5 and a Golden Chocolate Avocado £9.

The Christmas Coal Liquorice Honeycomb is available now in Waitrose shops and on Waitrose.com priced at £5.
