It could be down to covid and changes in eating habits, or perhaps an effort to save money, but new research has revealed that 71% of office workers are now opting for home made packed lunches in place of overpriced high-street offerings.

It could be down to covid and changes in eating habits, or perhaps an effort to save money, but new research has revealed that 71% of office workers are now opting for home made packed lunches in place of overpriced high-street offerings.

The new research commissioned by Mediterranean food brand, RAMONA’S, delved into office eating habits to discover how lunch choices are changing.

Surveying over 500 consumers, the study revealed that 80% of us are meal prepping our lunches in the same way we might our evening meals, whilst almost 70% of us buy lunch foods on a Monday to last the whole week.

Habits also seem to be governed by the weather, with almost 75% of those surveyed preferring a cold lunch that can be eaten either at desks or outside when the sun is out, with convenience playing a large part in food selection. However, despite this, 88% of us are still trying to make healthy choices.

RAMONA’S 500g pots of houmous are perfect for buying on a Monday and enjoying at the office throughout the week, with a choice of different flavours so you don’t suffer from lunch fatigue! Indeed, research shows that many office goers will buy a pot of houmous and serve it throughout the week with pitta bread (54%), followed by veggie sticks (48%), with falafel rising in popularity as dietary needs change (25%).

“With money worries at the forefront of consumer minds right now, people are looking for products that come in larger quantities to be stretched out throughout the working week. Choices that are versatile are key so that lunches can be switched up each day to keep things interesting,” comments Ramona Hazan, founder of RAMONA’S.

“With 76% of us describing ourselves as ‘desk snackers’, this research also shows there’s a shift in behaviour for foods that can be picked up and enjoyed throughout the day between meetings and busy schedules,” adds Ramona.

RAMONA’S produces Original, Jalapeno and Red Pepper Houmous in big sharing 500g tubs, as well as a range of fresh and frozen falafel and dips. Find RAMONA’S in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Ocado. Visit www.ramonaskitchen.co.uk
