Community Foods, the natural and organic dried food experts, have been appointed as the UK distributor for Buderim Ginger, the only wholly owned Australian ginger processor and Australia’s largest retail ginger brand, to bakery and ingredients customers and the retail sector. Community will take over from, Bath-based GLM Trading, whose owners are retiring after two decades of representing the business in the UK.

Buderim Ginger prides itself on its ingenuity in creating new exciting ways of enjoying its quality products. It has been supplying and exporting ginger to the UK and the rest of the world for over 80 years, with grower partnerships going back to the very beginning. It is a trusted source for some of the world’s largest food brands, with supplier relationships spanning for more than six decades. In the UK, Buderim Ginger’s retail products are stocked in Lakeland and Booths, but the majority of its UK business is used as ingredients for the bakery industry.

Buderim Ginger’s new distributor, Community Foods, are one of the UK’s leading packers and suppliers of dried fruits, nuts and seeds. “It’s a major compliment to be asked to represent Buderim Ginger as their UK distributors” says Martin Rome, Managing Director, Community Foods. “We’re passionate about working with growers and brands who share our beliefs and high integrity and give consumers and customers the extra reassurance they are looking for, ethically, environmentally, and in product quality, and we look forward to playing our part in the next chapter of their success story.”

Community Foods’ appointment marks a milestone in Buderim Ginger’s UK trading history, says Simon Hambleton, Senior Business Development Manager at Buderim Ginger: “After twenty years, Liam O’Gorman of GLM Trading has decided to retire and move onto the next adventures of his life. He has enjoyed a long working relationship representing Buderim Ginger, the world’s finest ginger in the United Kingdom, and we wish him well in the future. We would like to confirm our support of Community Foods in continuing to represent Buderim Ginger’s UK sales from here on. We are confident that Community Foods has the technical, innovation and operational capabilities to serve our wide range of customers throughout the country.”

The Buderim Ginger story began in Queensland, Australia in 1941, when five farmers came together to form the Buderim Ginger Co-operative in “Buderim,” a disused blacksmith’s shop. At that time all Australia’s ginger came from China, but the supply was disrupted due to WW2. Buderim Ginger moved their production in the 1980s, to its present base in Yardina, Queensland on the Sunshine Coast. Originally all the ginger was grown in the same area, but to meet increasing demand some ginger is now grown and processed in Fiji, to the same strict quality standards.
