Get into the Olympic spirit with a Japanese-inspired Afternoon Tea at Karma Sanctum Soho

26 July, 21

Nothing is more of a celebration of Britishness than afternoon tea. However, just in time to embrace the Olympic fever and Afternoon Tea Week (August 9 – 15), why not choose a twist on this classic and enjoy a Japanese-inspired afternoon tea at the wonderful Karma Sanctum Soho Hotel.

Available on Saturdays, Karma Sanctum’s restaurant Wild Heart Bar & Shokudo serves a decadent afternoon tea which trades cucumber sandwiches for mini platters of Aged Wagyu Beef Sliders or Salmon Tartar with wasabi, coriander and mint. Upgrade your standard scone to ones topped with orange blossom curd, a mini yuzu and red fruit tart or a matcha panna cotta. In true Rock ‘n’ Roll spirit, this can be upgraded to include a Davidoff Cigar plus a glass of whiskey or tipple of your choice to be enjoyed on the roof terrace.

In addition to the quintessential British tea, guests can enjoy some Japanese favourites; Hojicha, a roasted Japanese green tea or Macha, known for its signature subtle sweet and bitter flavour. You can also upgrade this delicious offering with a glass of Tattinger Brut or perhaps a signature Sake Royale cocktail to complement the oriental flavours.

The rooftop is the perfect fifth floor al fresco spot which exudes Soho’s vibrant energy. It is a residents and members only area but will accept advance bookings if tables are available.

‘Afternoon tea is without a doubt a brilliant British tradition, it is extravagant and is a wonderful way to while a Saturday away. We want to offer our guests the best of both; paying homage to the centuries-old mid-afternoon treat but with a taste of something exciting and new. No cuisine represents innovation and is full of fresh flavours quite like Japanese. Therefore, we have taken the expertise of three-time Michelin Star Chef Garry Hollihead and created the perfect way to indulge in Afternoon Tea” says owner, Mark Fuller, the renowned founder of Embassy Club and Sugar Reef.’

Karma Sanctum Soho Hotel has for years attracted legendary musicians who seek an authentic, personal hotel experience. Rock N’ Roll and the pursuit of hedonism is still very much in the ethos of the establishment and Chrissie Hynde’s paintings on the wall add to the playful experience. Post-pandemic, this much-loved establishment is better than ever, having recently undergone an extensive renovation including the launch of a new Japanese inspired restaurant, the Wild Heart Bar & Shokudo. This restaurant has opened with culinary legend Garry Hollihead at the helm delivering casual yet exceptional food.
